HEY GURLS

I’ve been seeing this meme around lately, and thought I’d put my thoughts out as well.

Being neutral me, I feel this is a good place to analyze both sides of the issue.

To look at the original side, the one pertaining to the very first meme (except it wasn’t really a meme at the time), the girl is stating her opinion on this issue. There is nothing wrong with that. Everyone has their own opinion, and whether we agree or not, we have to just suck it up and accept that. She has every right to state her opinion.

At the same time, she has no right to be telling people what to do. Now, I can’t really say she’s “ordering” anyone to do or not do anything, but some people have interpreted it as such, so I feel I should put it out there as well. No one has the right to dictate someone’s life like that, and especially not on such a mundane level.

Now to move on to the opposing response (which could relate to either picture responses or text, it doesn’t matter- they are all essentially the same. unless they are crack responses. then they are just plain funny. ). They usually relate to being told what to do (already gone over above), or women’s rights. I can understand this side- I mean, it hardly seems fair that women can’t show their boobs without being called a “slut”, while men can flaunt their pecs while being cheered on into to sunset while riding a majestic white Arabian. Women want to let go, too. Those nudist colonies have got a pretty good point, in my opinion, but that’s my inner-hippie talking, and we AREN’T GOING DOWN THAT DARK PATH RIGHT NOW.

At the same time, I don’t feel this is as much an issue of “We can’t,” as much as, “Society thinks we can’t”. I’ve heard that in a lot of places, it’s perfectly legal for women not to wear shirts, it’s just that women still feel the need to wear shirts.

Still, even if someone thinks that women should be allowed to go shirtless, he/she has no right to tell that original girl what to do, because it is her opinion, and if she chooses to not show her chest, that’s just fine. Likewise, she has no right to tell someone what to do, because if another girl wants to show her chest, that’s just fine.

Remember, guys-

We all grow up in different places, have different experiences, etc, etc.

Given that, we all come up with different opinions, and because of all this free will we are so kindly gifted, we are allowed to share these opinions, spark debates, share ideas, etc.

It’s what makes life interesting! It’s all really wonderful, when you think about it. The least we can do is respect everyone’s opinion, even if we don’t agree (there is such a thing as a respectful debate).

If anyone actually finds this thing, he/she will probably have their own opinion about it, and maybe give said opinion, but you know what? I’ll be so happy, because they are expressing themselves!

Someone might even give me an art critique, because that’s just what happens sometimes. WHO KNOOOOOOWS~

Anyways, I’ll get off my soapbox now and go back to hiding in Homestuck. I just wanted to get this out there.
